MASTUNG: A tragic bomb blast occurred near a school in the Mastung district of Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including three children and a police officer. The explosion took place as a van carrying schoolchildren and a police vehicle were passing through the area, causing significant chaos and injury. Thirteen others were reported injured, most of whom were children, and were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, including the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital and Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Hospital.

In response to the tragedy, Balochistan’s Health Minister Bakht Mohammad Kakar and Health Secretary Mujeeb ur Rahman declared a state of emergency at Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital, and the Trauma Centre in Quetta, ensuring that adequate medical attention is provided to the victims. The provincial government has also requested a report on the incident from the Balochistan Home Department to assess the situation further.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the bombing, expressing his deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He described the targeting of innocent children as a “deeply inhumane act,” denouncing the attack as reprehensible and calling for accountability. Following the explosion, bomb disposal teams and district administration officials promptly arrived at the scene to secure the area and conduct an investigation.

This incident adds to the troubling history of violence in Mastung, which has seen previous shootings, including a clash between supporters of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) and security forces in July, resulting in at least 14 injuries. Furthermore, in September, senior journalist Nisar Lehri was shot dead in the area, allegedly due to a land dispute, prompting demands from local press organizations for swift action against those responsible.
