
SUKKUR: The University of Larkano hosted an orientation meeting for the new project titled “Protection of Rights of Women and Minorities in Northern Sindh,” chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Kerio. The event provided an overview of the project’s objectives and strategies aimed at enhancing the rights and roles of women and minorities in the region.
The session was led by Fozia Hanif, Manager Programs, and Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Academic Advisor (BSWA), who outlined the key features of the project. They detailed how the initiative, a collaboration between the BSWA, the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), aims to foster dialogue, develop strategies for implementing the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, and challenge existing gender stereotypes.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Kerio commended the BSWA team for their dedication to community service, engagement, and youth development. He praised the efforts of Khadim Hussain Mirani, Executive Director of BSWA, and his team for their positive contributions and collaboration with academic institutions. Dr. Kerio assured that The University of Larkano would approach the project with sincerity and commitment to further development and progress.
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between The University of Larkano and BSWA, formalizing their collaboration. The MOU, signed by Dr. Muhammad Usman Kerio and Khadim Hussain Mirani, outlines commitments to academic linkage, youth capacity building, seminars, and workshops. The orientation session was attended by various deans and academic heads, including Prof. Dr. Samiullah, Prof. Dr. Syed Abid Ali Shah, Dr. Khalid Hussain, Eng. Safia Khatoon, Dr. Zuhair-ud-din, Prof. Dr. Faiz Muhammad Shaikh, Dr. Muhsin Shaikh, and Dr. Ayaz Ali Maitlo, the Focal Person for the project.
