PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has publicly pledged to “make every effort to bring Imran Khan from jail to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” In response to a journalist’s inquiry about Bushra Bibi’s recent visit, Gandapur emphasized that her security falls under provincial responsibility. “Wherever Bushra Bibi is, security arrangements are our responsibility. It’s good if she’s here with us,” he stated.
When asked about Bushra Bibi’s involvement in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meetings, Gandapur clarified that while she does not chair political committee sessions, consultations with her do take place. “Yes, we consult her on various matters, and that continues,” he affirmed. Regarding the timeline for bringing Imran Khan to the province, Gandapur reiterated his commitment, stating, “I will exert my full efforts to bring Imran Khan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from jail.” However, his statements come amid legal troubles, as a district and sessions court in Islamabad recently directed the senior superintendent of police (SSP) operations to execute an arrest warrant for Gandapur in connection with a case involving illegal weapons and liquor.
During a hearing presided over by Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti, Gandapur failed to appear in court, despite the standing non-bailable arrest warrant against him. The police were unable to execute the warrant, and no compliance report was submitted to the court. As a result, the court upheld the arrest warrant for Gandapur and summoned his surety, postponing the case hearing until October 26. The political landscape remains turbulent, with Gandapur’s legal issues complicating his public commitments to Imran Khan and PTI.
