ISLAMABAD: The Toshakhana case involving Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, continues to develop as an Additional District and Sessions Judge granted her an extension of interim bail until November 4, also excusing her from court attendance for one day due to illness. Barrister Salman Safdar, representing Bushra Bibi, explained her medical condition and obtained the court’s approval for her absence. Safdar also stated his intention to present arguments on her bail applications in the upcoming hearing.
Both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan are implicated in the Toshakhana fake receipts case, along with other high-profile associates, including Shahzad Akbar, Zulfi Bukhari, and Farah Gogi. According to the FIR filed at Islamabad’s Kohsar Police Station, the accused allegedly fabricated receipts and forged signatures to facilitate the sale of valuable state gifts retained by Khan during his tenure. A local watch dealer, the complainant, claimed that his business was misrepresented with fake invoices and letterheads allegedly used to validate the transactions. The accusations suggest that these counterfeit documents were intended to legitimize the sale of the Toshakhana gifts, potentially tarnishing the reputations of both the complainant and the government.
The Toshakhana case has prompted the court to adjourn the hearings for the bail applications of both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan, as well as Khan’s bail requests in two additional cases related to alleged vandalism and protests. These cases, along with the Toshakhana accusations, have fueled ongoing political scrutiny and legal battles surrounding Imran Khan, who is also seeking legal relief in connection with these separate charges. As the hearing approaches, the court’s eventual decision will play a critical role in the broader legal proceedings involving the former Prime Minister and his inner circle.
