GILGIT: Caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Justice (R) Yar Muhammad on Sunday visited Skardu to inspect damage to government and private properties that were set ablaze during recent unrest in the city.
He was accompanied by Force Command Northern Areas Commander Maj Gen Syed Imtiaz Gillani, Chief Secretary Abrar Ahmed Mirza and Inspector General of Police Dr. Akbar Nasir. The delegation reviewed the situation and assessed losses caused during the disturbances.
Speaking on the occasion, Yar Muhammad termed the incidents deeply unfortunate and stressed the need for collective efforts to curb intolerance in society. He urged religious scholars, intellectuals and members of civil society to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability for future generations.
The caretaker chief minister also highlighted the importance of encouraging positive and constructive thinking among youth to prevent violence and social divisions.
Later, Yar Muhammad visited Anjuman Imamia Baltistan where he offered condolences and joined prayers held to mark the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei. He said Khamenei was not merely a leader of a particular sect but a personality who advocated unity and solidarity among Muslims worldwide.
Caretaker provincial ministers also accompanied the chief minister during the visit.
