ISLAMABAD: China has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering improved relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, expressing readiness to play an active role in supporting peace and stability in the region. This comes after Pakistan took a significant diplomatic step by upgrading its mission in Afghanistan to ambassadorial status—a move welcomed warmly by Beijing.
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the elevation of diplomatic representation was a positive development that would deepen cooperation and strengthen mutual trust between the neighboring countries. The spokesperson emphasized that such gestures are vital in creating a more stable and peaceful environment in a region that has long grappled with conflict and uncertainty.
China’s involvement extends beyond bilateral ties, as both Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently implementing decisions reached during a trilateral meeting involving Chinese, Afghan, and Pakistani foreign ministers. The spokesperson noted China’s determination to act constructively in enhancing relations between the two nations, underlining Beijing’s broader interest in regional harmony.
Moreover, the Chinese government expressed its willingness to collaborate with regional partners to uphold peace and build what it described as a “shared future community” among neighboring countries. This vision reflects China’s growing diplomatic ambitions and its desire to foster interconnectedness and mutual prosperity across South and Central Asia.
As Pakistan and Afghanistan work to rebuild trust and overcome historical challenges, China’s backing is seen as a critical component in encouraging dialogue and cooperation. This diplomatic momentum comes at a crucial moment, with regional stability hanging in the balance and international attention increasingly focused on how these nations will navigate their complex relationship going forward.
