PESHAWAR: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held a high-profile auction of personalized “choice” number plates at Nishtar Hall on Tuesday, attracting strong public interest and competitive bidding.
The top bid was recorded for the plate “Wazir 1”, sold for Rs15 million. The second-highest, “Afridi 1”, fetched Rs1.4 crore and was acquired by Javed Afridi, owner of Peshawar Zalmi. “Khan 1” was sold for Rs1.11 crore to MPA Naik Muhammad Khan. Other notable sales included “Peshawar 1” for Rs10 million, “Haripur 1” for Rs8 million, and “Yousafzai 1” for Rs49.2 lakh. Smaller bids included “Durrani 1” for Rs16.6 lakh, “Malakand 1” for Rs12.5 lakh, and “Swabi 1” for Rs12 lakh.
The auction used a single-bidding mechanism, with remaining choice number plates to be offered through e-bidding. The event highlighted strong public engagement and the success of this innovative initiative, which forms part of the department’s modern reform agenda under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and Provincial Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan. The auction featured tribal, political, and region-based personalised plates, expected to generate significant revenue for the provincial exchequer.
Syed Fakhar Jahan described the initiative as citizen-centric and praised the overwhelming public response. He announced plans to offer more personalized plates through e-bidding and invited citizens to submit requests via the Dastak App or directly to the Director General Excise. The ceremony was attended by Director General Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Khan, and other senior officials of the department.
