SUKKUR: A mother and her newborn died following alleged medical negligence at the gynecology ward of Civil Hospital Thatta, prompting protests from the family and raising fresh concerns over patient safety.
Sughran Khatoon, a resident of Zangi Khan Khaskheli village, was brought to the hospital last Saturday for delivery. According to her family, she underwent surgery during which her intestine was accidentally cut—a mistake the relatives said the hospital attempted to conceal.
Her husband, Muhammad Urs Khaskheli, and relative Ludho Khaskheli told reporters that doctors initially claimed Sughran’s abdomen was filled with fluid and attributed her condition to a liver issue before referring her to Jinnah Hospital in Karachi. Upon arrival, doctors at Jinnah Hospital revealed the true cause of her rapidly deteriorating condition.
After several days of treatment, Sughran succumbed to her injuries, and the newborn also died shortly after birth.
The family staged a protest outside the hospital, holding the administration and operating doctors responsible for what they described as “criminal negligence.” They announced plans to file a petition in court seeking strict legal action against those involved.
