LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif formally inaugurated Phase-III of the CM Green Tractor Program in Lahore on Monday, marking a significant step in the province’s ongoing efforts to modernize its agricultural sector.
The ceremony also witnessed the launch of the balloting process for eligible farmers, signaling the official start of tractor allocations under the new phase. Addressing attendees, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the transformative impact of the Green Tractor Scheme on Punjab’s farming landscape.
CM Maryam emphasized that by providing access to modern machinery, the program was not only easing the physical burdens on farmers but also enhancing productivity, efficiency, and the overall competitiveness of the province’s agriculture. “This initiative is reshaping the way farming is carried out in Punjab,” she remarked, underlining the government’s commitment to supporting the backbone of the provincial economy.
The Green Tractor Scheme, now entering its third phase, has already distributed 21,000 tractors under the previous two phases, benefiting thousands of small and medium-scale farmers. In Phase-III, the program aims to provide 10,000 tractors ranging between 50 and 65 horsepower, specifically targeted to meet the diverse needs of Punjab’s farming community.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects a broader strategy to modernize agriculture through mechanization, ensuring that farmers have access to reliable and efficient equipment. By continuing to expand the program, the provincial government hopes to strengthen rural livelihoods, increase crop yields, and contribute to a more sustainable and productive agricultural economy across Punjab.
