SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah formally inaugurated the 205th annual Urs of the revered Sufi poet and humanist Sachal Sarmast at his shrine, laying a ceremonial chadar alongside the shrine’s custodian Khawaja Abdul Haq Farooqi.

The event was attended by provincial ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi, and other political leaders including Nawab Khan Wasan, MPA Halar Khan Wasan, Agha Shehbaz Khan Durrani, and Khawaja Nazarul Haq Farooqi.

During the ceremony, the Endowment Department distributed clothing to deserving and underprivileged women. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister prayed for the safety and prosperity of the nation and the Muslim world, highlighting the deteriorating situation in the region following Israel’s attacks on Iran and the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
CM Sindh also briefed on ongoing infrastructure development in the Kacha areas, with coordination meetings underway to ensure timely execution. He acknowledged the federal government’s attention to the Sukkur motorway project, noting that work has begun on three of the five sectors, with the remaining two scheduled to start soon.
Addressing terrorism, he reaffirmed the Pakistan People’s Party’s stance against all acts of violence, praising the armed forces for ongoing operations against militants.
Later, the Chief Minister visited the residence of the shrine’s custodian, where he was presented with a traditional Ajrak and a commemorative shield. Urs committee members, local administrators, police, and dignitaries also presented shields and paid respects, while the followers of Sachal Sarmast performed devotional musical recitals in his honor.
