In light of recent protests, General Munir expressed the military’s resolve, along with that of federal and provincial governments, to secure the safety and well-being of the Baloch people

KAKUL: In a strong address delivered during the Independence Day parade, General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), outlined a multifaceted security strategy in response to rising challenges, both internal and external. The COAS identified foreign powers as the primary culprits behind a disturbing rise in what he referred to as ‘digital terrorism,’ a phenomenon he claimed is designed to create discord between state institutions and the public.

General Munir’s address, delivered at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, underscored the critical importance of maintaining national unity and stability under the guiding vision of ‘Azm-e-Istehkam.’ He made it clear that those engaged in efforts to destabilize Pakistan will ultimately face failure. His remarks highlighted a series of pressing issues confronting the nation. General Munir addressed the ongoing tensions on the Western border, particularly emphasizing the challenges posed by the resurgence of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna Al Khawarij (FAK).

This group has become a significant threat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing increased instability and insecurity. The COAS reiterated the army’s commitment to countering this threat and restoring peace in the region. The COAS also touched upon the ongoing unrest in Balochistan. In light of recent protests, General Munir expressed the military’s resolve, along with that of federal and provincial governments, to secure the safety and well-being of the Baloch people. He emphasized that any attempts to undermine stability in the province would be met with firm resistance.

A significant portion of General Munir’s address was dedicated to criticizing the misuse of social media. He accused adversaries of exploiting these platforms to spread misinformation, which in turn, aims to incite chaos and undermine military institutions. While acknowledging the constitutional right to freedom of speech, he stressed the need for responsible usage and adherence to legal boundaries. In his address, General Munir called on the Taliban government in Afghanistan to not align itself with the FAK at the expense of Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with its neighbor. This plea underscores the strategic importance of maintaining cooperative relations to address cross-border security concerns effectively.

General Munir extended his gratitude to Pakistan’s friendly nations, including China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Turkiye, for their ongoing support. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Kashmir cause and condemned the continued atrocities in Gaza, highlighting the nation’s position on international human rights issues. General Asim Munir’s speech reflects a comprehensive strategy to address the complex security challenges facing Pakistan.
