KARACHI: A delegation from the Sindh Association of North America (SANA), led by President Dr. Maqbool Halepoto, visited the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Rehabilitation Centre in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, on Friday, highlighting growing transnational support for children with intellectual disabilities in Sindh.
Dr. Halepoto praised the dedication of the NDF team, led by President Abid Lashari, for providing free rehabilitation services to children from marginalized communities across the province. He described the center’s work as vital, offering hope and opportunities to families often excluded from mainstream social and medical support.
Highlighting the alignment between SANA and NDF, Dr. Halepoto said the association would continue supporting the center through technical expertise and financial assistance. He stressed that collaborative efforts were essential to addressing social inequalities and ensuring that vulnerable children received comprehensive care and opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.
During the visit, Lashari briefed the delegation on the center’s programs, which provide essential therapies to over 120 children with conditions including Down syndrome, autism, ADHD, and other intellectual disabilities. Services include physiotherapy, psychotherapy, speech therapy, behavioral therapy, and other specialized interventions, implemented in partnership with the Government of Sindh and other organizations.
Accompanying Dr. Halepoto were SANA members from Canada, New York, Hyderabad, and Karachi, who expressed their commitment to supporting NDF’s initiatives. The visit reinforced the importance of sustained community and diaspora engagement in promoting social welfare across Sindh.
