LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the federal government and sought a response on a petition challenging the recent increase in petroleum product prices.
The hearing was conducted by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh on a petition filed by a lawyer questioning the legality of the hike. During the proceedings, the federal government’s counsel stated that fuel prices are determined in light of recommendations submitted by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the government should submit a clear written explanation regarding the basis of the price increase.

The petition comes after Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik recently announced a significant increase in fuel prices during a media briefing held alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
Following the increase, the price of petrol was set at Rs321.17 per litre, while diesel rose to Rs335.86 per litre after a hike of Rs55 per litre for both fuels.
