
KARACHI: On the directive of the Sindh government, the Karachi administration has initiated a crackdown against profiteers during the month of Ramadan. Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Salim Rajput, is overseeing the campaign.
The Commissioner has instructed magistrates in every area to check prices and ensure the enforcement of government rates. He has directed the Police Bureau of Supply, Food Department, and Weights and Measures Department officers to remain in the field and assist the administration. On Monday, fines exceeding Rs. 1,591,000 were imposed on 164 profiteers. Overall, officers of the Karachi administration checked prices at 545 locations.
The Commissioner’s Office has also released details of the action taken in the past 13 days. According to the details, fines totaling Rs. 10,179,500 were imposed on 2,200 profiteers during the past 13 days. In the South district, fines were imposed on 26 shops, totaling Rs. 525,000, and in the West district, fines exceeding Rs. 800,000 were imposed on 22 shops. Similarly, fines exceeding Rs. 140,000 were imposed on 16 shops in the East district, Rs. 147,000 on 37 shops in the Central district, Rs. 97,000 on 17 shops in Malir, Rs. 225,000 on 14 shops in Korangi, and Rs. 88,000 on 10 shops in Kemari.
