BAJAUR: In response to escalating violence, the Bajaur Peace Jirga has imposed strict restrictions, including a night curfew from 9 p.m. onwards, to restore order in the region. The jirga announced that any fatalities occurring after the curfew time will be considered “forgiven,” and no FIRs will be registered for such incidents.
Organizers justified the controversial decision, citing the severe unrest that has gripped Bajaur in recent weeks. “These measures are necessary to prevent further turmoil and safeguard lives,” the jirga stated. Residents traveling between villages after the curfew must inform relevant parties in advance to avoid misunderstandings.
A larger jirga, involving political and tribal leaders from the Malakand division, is scheduled for December 8 at Wadudi Hall to discuss broader peace strategies. The meeting aims to formulate comprehensive measures to ensure long-term stability in the region.
While the curfew has garnered support from some quarters, others have raised concerns about its legality and ethical implications. Despite the debates, the jirga insists that such steps are essential for maintaining peace in Bajaur.
