DADU: A recent report has revealed that 122 primary schools in Dadu have been closed over the past month, highlighting a deepening educational crisis in the district. The closures have been attributed to deteriorating law and order, tribal conflicts, teacher absenteeism, and staff transfers under the Service Transfer and Replacement (STR) policy.
The report noted that three schools were shut due to security concerns linked to local tribal disputes, while 30 schools remained closed because of absent or ghost teachers. An additional 12 schools were temporarily closed as students were losing instructional time while waiting for teachers, and the transfer of staff led to the closure of another 21 schools.
Inspections conducted by the Chief Monitoring Officer covered 1,203 of the district’s 1,707 primary schools in December, and the findings, along with recommendations for urgent remedial measures, were submitted to the District Officer (Primary Education). Sources warned that without immediate intervention, the ongoing crisis could further disrupt students’ learning and cause long-term damage to education in the district.
