WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump drew attention to Pakistan’s recent naval activity in the Gulf by sharing a post from the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The post highlighted the transit of 20 Pakistani-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz, with two vessels scheduled to cross daily, a move Islamabad described as both “constructive and commendable.” Dar framed the operation as a milestone in efforts to promote peace and stability across the strategically sensitive region.
Speaking to reporters and via his social media statement, the deputy prime minister said the transit marked a “significant step towards peace” and signaled Pakistan’s commitment to supporting collective regional security. He emphasized that the exercise was intended to strengthen cooperation among Gulf states, reflecting Islamabad’s broader diplomatic approach of dialogue and confidence-building.
The public attention drawn by Trump’s repost underscored the international visibility of Pakistan’s naval initiatives. Analysts noted that while the operation was largely logistical, the symbolism of 20 national vessels navigating one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints highlighted Islamabad’s emerging role as a stabilizing actor in the Gulf.
Dar reiterated that sustained peace would only be possible through diplomacy and engagement, rather than unilateral action or confrontation. For Pakistan, the transit not only demonstrated operational capability but also reinforced the country’s image as a partner in regional stability, balancing strategic interests with a commitment to dialogue.
