DC Hyderabad Zainul Abedin Memon has ordered legal action against parents who refuse polio drops for their children.

HYDERABAD: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Zainul Abedin Memon has issued a directive to enforce legal action against parents who refuse to administer polio drops to their children. This decision was announced during a recent meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming seven-day polio vaccination campaign, set to run from September 9 to 15.
During the meeting, DC Memon emphasized the critical importance of vaccinating every child under five years of age against polio. He instructed officers to intensify their efforts in areas with historically low vaccination rates and to address cases of refusal with legal measures. Memon highlighted that ensuring compliance with the vaccination drive is essential for achieving the campaign’s objectives. In addition to tackling refusal cases, Memon stressed the importance of security for polio vaccination teams. He called upon law enforcement agencies to provide robust protection to the teams working on the ground, ensuring their safety and enabling the campaign to proceed without interruptions.
Dr. Bisma Memon, who provided an overview of the anti-polio campaign, detailed the extensive logistical setup for the drive. The campaign aims to administer polio drops to 400,000 children across 163 Union Councils (UCs) in the province. To achieve this, a comprehensive network will be mobilized, including 84 Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) centres, 1,565 mobile teams, 160 fixed teams, 70 transit teams, and eight roaming teams. The campaign’s progress will be monitored closely by 385 area in-charges and 112 Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs).
The meeting also included District Health Officer Hyderabad Dr. Lala Jafar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Khaliq Baloch, and other officials from the health department, all of whom are collaborating to ensure the successful execution of the campaign. The administration’s focus on legal action against non-compliant parents reflects a determined effort to eradicate polio and safeguard public health. With the coordinated efforts of health authorities, law enforcement, and community members, the campaign seeks to make significant strides in eliminating the threat of polio.
