QUETTA: On Monday evening, an armed attack in Balochistan’s Mastung district resulted in the tragic death of Deputy Commissioner Zakir Baloch and left District Chairman Abdul Malik injured. Both officials were targeted while performing their duties, leading to immediate medical treatment for the wounded. Despite efforts to save him, Zakir Baloch succumbed to his injuries. The attack has shocked the region, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
Police and levies have initiated an investigation into the incident to identify and apprehend the attackers. The National Party (NP), to which Chairman Abdul Malik is affiliated, has strongly condemned the assault. Abdul Malik is the brother of Rehmat Saleh Baloch, a member of the Balochistan Assembly from the NP. Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Central President of the NP and former Chief Minister of Balochistan, along with Central Secretary General Jan Muhammad Buledi, issued a statement denouncing the attack as a calculated effort to destabilize the region.
“This is a clear and deliberate effort to worsen the situation in Balochistan under a well-thought-out plan,” Dr Baloch asserted. Both leaders emphasized that such acts of terrorism are intolerable and called for immediate action to bring those responsible to justice. The attack is seen as a direct challenge to the stability and governance in Balochistan, underscoring the need for increased security measures for public officials in the province.
In light of the attack, there have been growing calls for heightened security protocols to protect officials and ensure their safety amidst the rising threats in Balochistan. The incident has drawn attention to the broader issues of security and political stability in the region, with demands for both immediate action and long-term strategies to address the underlying causes of such violence.
