DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Late on Tuesday night, unidentified militants launched coordinated assaults on the York Police Station and a nearby Customs Police Station, resulting in the deaths of two security personnel and injuries to three others, officials reported.
The attacks, which authorities described as “planned and brutal,” sent shockwaves through the district and prompted an immediate response from law enforcement. The first assault targeted the Customs Police Station, where Constable Muhammad Israr was killed and Constable Nauman sustained injuries. According to police sources, the assailants also abducted a customs official and set two vehicles ablaze before moving towards the York Police Station.
At York, militants reportedly wielded heavy weapons, forcing officers to mount a strong defensive response. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Police Constable Muhammad Bilal was killed, while Constables Hazrat Umar and Khayal Muhammad were injured. Authorities described the situation as tense but under control, with rapid mobilization of police units preventing further casualties.
District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada, accompanied by SP City Murtaza Khan Bangash and SP Paharpur Iqbal Baloch, personally led the response, cordoning off the area and initiating a search operation to locate and apprehend the attackers. Officials emphasized that the investigation remained active, and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
Residents in the vicinity reported hearing heavy gunfire and witnessing the swift arrival of police and emergency personnel. Many described feelings of fear and uncertainty as the attacks unfolded in the dead of night. Security analysts noted that such coordinated assaults highlight both the continuing threats faced by law enforcement in the region and the need for strengthened measures to safeguard police installations.
While no group immediately claimed responsibility, authorities stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity. The attacks marked a stark reminder of the risks confronting security forces and the broader challenges of ensuring public safety in a region still grappling with militancy.
