RIYADH: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a series of high-level meetings with regional counterparts during the OIC Executive Committee gatherings in Jeddah, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties across the Islamic world. On the sidelines, Dar met the Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel, and Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, to discuss strategic cooperation.
During his meeting with the Maldivian minister, Dar reaffirmed the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and the Maldives. Both leaders pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation and reiterated support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the continuing significance of the Palestinian cause in regional diplomacy. Discussions also focused on enhancing economic collaboration and cultural exchanges.
In a separate engagement, Dar met Somalia’s Ali Mohamed Omar, where he expressed Pakistan’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity. He condemned the illegal Israeli recognition of Somaliland as a separate entity, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to upholding internationally recognized borders. The two ministers discussed expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and people-to-people contacts, reinforcing the historic and religious ties that underpin Pakistan-Somalia relations.
