DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A comprehensive food safety crackdown in Dera Ismail Khan resulted in fines totalling Rs81,000, the sealing of three shops and the destruction of 20 litres of unhealthy cooking oil, officials said.
The operation, carried out under directives of the provincial government by Assistant Commissioner Syed Muhammad Arslan, covered Madina Colony and Chah Syed Manawar Shah. Inspections targeted general stores, naan shops, fruit and vegetable vendors, and milk and yoghurt outlets, along with other food stalls.
Authorities reported several violations, including failure to display official price lists or placing them in inconspicuous locations, overcharging customers, selling underweight items, using stale or harmful cooking oil, maintaining poor hygiene and encroaching on roads in breach of Right of Way regulations.
Shopkeepers found using unsafe oil had it confiscated and destroyed on the spot, while those overcharging were fined and ordered to refund the excess amount to customers. Three shops were sealed over serious violations.
Assistant Commissioner Syed Muhammad Arslan said there would be no compromise on public health and consumer rights, warning that strict enforcement would continue.
