Armed assailants set up an illegal checkpoint on Chashma Road in Dera Ismail Khan, stopping vehicles and looting passengers before fleeing the scene, police and local residents said.
According to initial reports, about a dozen unidentified men, believed to have arrived in three or four vehicles, blocked the road between Super No five and Super No six within the limits of Kaddi Khisor police station. The attackers stopped passing traffic and forcibly took cash, mobile phones and jewellery from those travelling through the area.
Police said they rushed to the location after receiving information about the blockade, but the suspects managed to escape before officers arrived.
The incident has triggered concern among residents, who say law and order in the area has deteriorated and that citizens are increasingly exposed to crime. Locals have appealed to the regional and district police leadership in Dera Ismail Khan to arrest those responsible and to take effective measures to restore security and protect lives and property.
