KARACHI: Senior leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have strongly condemned what they described as attempts to establish a “state within a state” on Karachi’s streets during Sindhi Culture Day on 7 December.
Addressing a press conference in Bahadurabad on 10 December 2025 alongside senior MQM-P figures, including Ali Khurshidi and other provincial assembly members, MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar said the celebrations were marred by armed groups who engaged in violence, damaged public and private property, set ambulances on fire, and openly waved weapons while chanting anti-Pakistan slogans.
Dr Sattar labelled these actions “a premeditated and shameful conspiracy aimed at destabilizing Karachi.” He criticized the judicial response, saying that the courts’ treatment of the accused as “innocent” while labelling law enforcement officers as “ignorant” effectively undermined justice and threatened the city’s peace. “This approach signals a troubling intent to destroy Karachi’s security under the guise of loyalty,” he said, calling on the judiciary to take notice.
The MQM-P leaders also condemned the use of abusive language against Governor Kamran Tessori outside the Governor’s House, contrasting it with the peaceful message of unity and harmony he had promoted during the official Sindhi Culture Day event. Dr Sattar warned that if the authorities fail to respond, tensions could escalate, particularly ahead of planned cultural celebrations by the Muhajir community on 24 December.
Other MQM-P provincial assembly members present included Faseel Rafiq, Balqees Mukhtar, Farah Sohail, and Amir Siddiqui, who joined in underscoring the party’s commitment to uphold Pakistan’s constitution and defend the rule of law.
