QUETTA: A rickshaw driver in Quetta set his vehicle on fire on Airport Road, claiming that traffic police officers had been demanding money from him.
According to the driver, the act was a protest against alleged extortion, highlighting tensions between local transport operators and law enforcement.
Quetta’s Traffic Superintendent Asim Shah said the driver has been taken into custody and transferred to the police station for further investigation. He added that, under the orders of the Quetta Commissioner, illegal loader rickshaws are being seized as part of a crackdown on unauthorized vehicles.
The incident reflects ongoing challenges in regulating urban transport while ensuring accountability and addressing grievances raised by drivers in the city.
