KHAIRPUR: Shah Abdul Latif University’s Institute of English hosted a distinguished book launch ceremony to celebrate the English translation of Reflection, a collection of Sindhi short stories by Muhammad Ali Pathan, translated by alumna Rafia Bukhari.

The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, with Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, attending as chief guest. The program opened with a welcome address by organizer Ibrahim Khokhar, who highlighted the role of translations in bridging cultures and broadening literary horizons.

The ceremony featured contributions from eminent scholars and literary figures, including Muhammad Ali Pathan, Rafia Bukhari, Prof. Hassan Shaikh, Prof. Jam Jamali, and Prof. Mukhtiar Samo. Students presented book reviews and performed a short story from the collection, Trust, on stage, adding a creative dimension to the launch. The event was conducted by faculty member Dua Jatoi.

During the ceremony, the book was formally inaugurated, and the Vice Chancellor presented cultural gifts to both the author and the translator. Prof. Dr. Khushk praised the Institute’s cultural and academic initiatives and encouraged establishing a Translation Bureau, a student magazine, and regular book reviews. Prof. Mashori highlighted the importance of translations in promoting Sindhi literature globally, while Mr. Khokhar emphasized their role in intercultural dialogue.

The author, Muhammad Ali Pathan, expressed delight at seeing his stories reach wider audiences, and translator Rafia Bukhari shared her passion for making Sindhi literature accessible to English readers. Other scholars commended the initiative as a milestone in academic and literary collaboration, while student participation was recognized as strengthening critical and creative skills.

The ceremony concluded in celebration, marking Reflection as a symbol of literary achievement, cultural exchange, and academic excellence at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur.
