Former Israeli soldier Yuval Green describes an atmosphere of anger and vengefulness among the military, with discussions about targeting innocent civilians and the destruction of Gaza

TEL AVIV: A former Israeli soldier, 26-year-old Yuval Green, has made serious allegations regarding the conduct of Israeli military forces in Gaza, revealing troubling details about actions taken during the conflict with Hamas. According to U.S. media reports, Green, who served in the medical reserves and was deployed to Gaza in November of the previous year, has accused Israeli soldiers of engaging in looting, seeking revenge, and committing acts of grave misconduct.

In a recent interview, Green disclosed that he had serious reservations about the military’s conduct in the occupied West Bank prior to the escalation of the conflict on October 7. Although he had intended to address these concerns with his colleagues, the outbreak of hostilities led him to feel obligated to support the military efforts.

Green, who spent 51 days in Khan Younis, recounted a significant shift in his unit’s behavior following October 7. He described an atmosphere of anger and vengefulness among soldiers, with discussions about targeting civilians and the destruction of Gaza. Green reported that Palestinian homes were unnecessarily demolished, and soldiers were involved in looting these properties. He recounted a specific incident where a commander allegedly ordered the burning of a Palestinian home, a decision Green found unjustifiable and retaliatory.

Further complicating the situation, Green criticized the Israeli government’s unwillingness to end the conflict despite what he believes to be solid agreements for Hamas to release all hostages. He lamented the loss of 10 Israeli hostages due to the ongoing conflict and argued that ending the war is crucial to preventing further Palestinian casualties. Green’s disclosures add a new dimension to the ongoing discourse on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting issues of military conduct and ethical considerations. His allegations, if verified, could have significant implications for both military accountability and the broader conflict dynamics.
