The Arabic documentary by media teams from TRT Arabi, Al Jazeera, Reuters, and AFP, highlights Israeli military war crimes against journalists in Gaza and southern Lebanon

GAZA: The documentary, produced by TRT Arabi, examines Israeli military crimes against journalists in Gaza and southern Lebanon, focusing on the systemic targeting of media professionals since October 7. It features harrowing accounts of journalists killed while covering conflicts and highlights the risks faced by media teams from TRT Arabi, Al Jazeera, Reuters, and AFP. The film recounts the tragic story of Mustafa Sawaf, whose family was decimated in an airstrike that killed 47 relatives, including his two sons, Marwan and Montaser.
Additionally, Ismail Al-Thawabteh, Director General of the Government Media Office, reported that 172 journalists have been killed in Gaza due to Israeli actions, with 36 arrested during the conflict—32 of whom remain in detention. Despite its focus on the perilous conditions journalists endure, Meta (Facebook) removed the documentary, citing violations of its community standards on dangerous individuals and organisations. Meta’s explanation for the removal was that the film “promoted dangerous individuals and organisations,” leading to accusations of double standards.
The decision has sparked criticism, especially from Palestinian supporters, who argue that Meta’s content moderation policies disproportionately target Palestinian narratives. This controversy is compounded by Meta’s recent policy changes, including a decision to consider the term “martyr” neutral under certain contexts and to classify the term “Zionist” as hate speech. The removal of Journalism Under Genocide has raised questions about the balance between content moderation and freedom of expression, and the perceived biases in how different narratives are treated on social media platforms.
