KARACHI: Senior Farooq Sattar of Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) has said that the party had been repeatedly assured that Kamran Tessori would continue to serve as the Governor of Sindh.
Speaking on the television programme Geo Pakistan on Geo News, Sattar said MQM-P’s political understanding had been reached with the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), not with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
He explained that the agreement between MQM-P and PML-N was based on political commitments made during the formation of the current government arrangement, under which certain constitutional positions and administrative roles were expected to remain with MQM-P. According to Sattar, the governorship of Sindh was one of the key assurances given to the party leadership.
Sattar noted that MQM-P had supported PML-N at a crucial political stage and expected that the commitments made at that time would be honoured. “We were told again and again that Kamran Tessori would remain the Governor,” he said, stressing that such assurances had shaped the party’s political decisions.
However, he made it clear that MQM-P’s agreement was strictly with PML-N and not with PPP, which currently governs Sindh. He said that if PML-N believes maintaining stronger political ties with PPP serves its interests better, it is free to pursue that course.
Sattar’s remarks come amid ongoing political discussions regarding alliances and power-sharing arrangements between major parties at both the federal and provincial levels. The MQM-P leader indicated that his party expects clarity on the matter, particularly regarding the continuation of Tessori as governor and the broader commitments made during coalition negotiations.
