ISLAMABAD: A special judge at Adiala Jail, Shahrukh Arjmand, has denied the post-arrest bail applications of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the ongoing Toshakhana 2.0 case. The court has scheduled the indictment for October 2. The hearing took place on Monday, with the prosecution represented by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi.
During the proceedings, the prosecution argued that Imran Khan acquired a Bulgari set valued at 70 million rupees for a mere Rs2.9 million. They asserted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained the original price of the set through the Foreign Office. The prosecution detailed the contents of the Bulgari set, which reportedly included a necklace, earrings, bracelet, and a ring. They alleged that during his premiership, Imran Khan had undervalued the set’s market price at Rs5.8 million and retained the state gift without depositing it in the Toshakhana, the government treasury for gifts received by officials.
In defense, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, contended that the current case mirrored a previous reference involving the same allegations and witnesses. He argued that, following the Supreme Court’s restoration of NAB amendments, the case should be dismissed. Despite the defense’s arguments, the special judge rejected the bail pleas, resulting in Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi now preparing to face charges in the forthcoming hearing scheduled for October 2.
