ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested Zahoor Ahmed, the former General Manager of Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO), in connection with a corruption case involving wheat procurement. This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct within PASSCO.
According to an FIA spokesperson, Zahoor Ahmed was detained for his role in altering PASSCO’s wheat procurement policy. The former GM is accused of deviating from the established procedures by facilitating the purchase of wheat through middlemen instead of directly from farmers. This modification was allegedly implemented through a policy letter issued under the guise of the Managing Director’s signature.
The FIA has registered a case against Zahoor Ahmed, and the investigation is expected to extend to the former Managing Director of PASSCO, who is anticipated to be implicated in the case. This development follows a broader investigation into PASSCO’s wheat procurement practices. In May, the FIA had already filed a corruption case against three PASSCO officials—General Manager Field Zahoor Ranjha, Zonal Head Borewala Rao Akram, and Zonal Head Bahawalnagar Gibran Iqbal—for their involvement in a major wheat distribution scam. The officials are accused of embezzling over one billion rupees through significant financial misappropriations.
The arrest of Zahoor Ahmed and the ongoing probe into PASSCO’s procurement policies underscore the FIA’s commitment to addressing corruption within government institutions. The agency’s actions aim to restore transparency and accountability in the procurement and distribution of essential commodities like wheat.
