DADU: Residents of Bhan Syedabad, the hometown of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, are struggling with a severe flour shortage as prices surge to Rs130 per kilogram.
Local sources claim that government wheat stored at the Bhan Syedabad warehouse has been diverted to selected traders, leaving flour mills without their allotted quotas and driving unprecedented price hikes. Reports indicate that wheat is being transported to Karachi for stockpiling and sale at inflated rates, placing a heavy burden on laborers and low-income families.
Citizens have accused district food authorities of favoring certain traders and are calling on the Sindh Chief Minister to intervene. They demand transparent distribution and strict accountability for officials involved. Allegations have also emerged that food department staff are accepting bribes of Rs1,300 per bag to release government wheat.
The District Food Controller, Jamshoro, Naveed Tahir, declined to comment. Warehouse officials insisted that wheat is issued only against valid tenders, noting that 4,000 bags have so far been released to a single trader and around 31,000 bags remain available.
