KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, inaugurated a free computer training centre for women at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Industrial Home in Keamari. This new initiative is part of a broader strategy to empower women with essential digital skills and vocational training to enhance their participation in the modern economy.

At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Shaikh emphasized the critical role of such facilities in providing women with the tools necessary to contribute effectively to the nation’s progress. He outlined his vision for expanding similar opportunities across various sectors, including social, educational, and economic domains, to further support women’s advancement.

The Karachi Port Trust has demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility by employing women in over 13% of its positions. Minister Shaikh praised KPT’s efforts to leverage the potential of youth, both intellectually and physically, in their community-focused initiatives.

In his speech, Shaikh highlighted the importance of digital literacy for women, especially those in Keamari and its surrounding areas. He stressed that equipping women with digital skills is crucial for their success in today’s technology-driven world. The new computer centre is a significant step toward achieving this goal.

During the event, Minister Shaikh was briefed on KPT’s extensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, which include activities in health, education, environment, communication, services, and sports.

KPT Chairman Syedain Raza Zaidi emphasized the organization’s belief in the transformative power of women’s empowerment for societal development. He noted that the computer centre aims to provide women with IT skills to boost their employability, create new opportunities, and improve their income potential. Zaidi highlighted that this initiative is a testament to KPT’s commitment to social responsibility and community development.

The establishment of the computer training centre marks a pivotal advancement in efforts to empower women in the region, reflecting a significant investment in their future and the broader community.
