TEHSIL JAMRUD: The funeral prayers for the individuals who lost their lives in the police firing during the Pashtun national jirga in Reggi Lalma, District Khyber, have been held, drawing thousands of mourners. The prayers were led by Mufti Munir Shakir, who presided over a gathering that included prominent figures from various political backgrounds.
Notable attendees included Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM); Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, a former senator from Jamaat-e-Islami; and provincial leaders from the Awami National Party, along with various Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs). The substantial turnout underscores the community’s solidarity in the face of recent violence. During a brief speech at the funeral, Manzoor Pashteen reaffirmed the commitment to hold the jirga, stating, “No matter what happens, the Pashtun jirga will take place, with Pashtuns arriving from all over the country in caravans to participate.”
This statement reflects the determination of the Pashtun community to continue advocating for their rights and unity, despite the tragic events. It is also significant to note that PTM workers have been actively involved in preparations for the event, working tirelessly at the site for several days leading up to the jirga. Their dedication highlights the grassroots support for the movement and the resilience of the Pashtun community in the face of adversity.
