SUKKUR: A 12-member delegation from the Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) Islamabad recently visited the Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jillani Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat, Khairpur, to observe the health and medical facilities available at this state-of-the-art institution. The delegation was led by PRA President Usman Farooq, and included several distinguished members such as General Secretary Naveed Akbar Chaudhry and Ahmad Nawaz Khan.
During the visit, the institute’s director, Captain (Retd) Dr. Raheem Bakhsh Bhatti, provided a comprehensive tour of the various departments and services offered by the facility, which operates primarily through funds from the Sindh government. Dr. Bhatti highlighted the institute’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services without discrimination, including liver transplants, which the institute leads in performing across Pakistan.
Patients from diverse regions, including Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Islamabad, and even Afghanistan, have benefitted from these services. In addition to liver transplants, the institute offers a wide range of medical services, such as radiotherapy, bone marrow transplants, cataract surgeries, open-heart surgeries, dialysis, trauma care, ICU and CCU, a burn center, and an advanced diagnostic and research laboratory. The institute also boasts a medical college, further reinforcing its role as a major healthcare hub in the region.
President Usman Farooq, commenting on the visit, expressed admiration for the facilities in the Sukkur region, noting the remarkable progress made in health, education, and infrastructure under the Sindh government’s leadership. He particularly praised the Gambat Institute as a model healthcare institution in a remote part of the province, offering essential services free of cost. Farooq emphasized the importance of such institutions in providing quality healthcare in underserved areas, advocating for the replication of these efforts in other provinces of Pakistan.
