KARACHI: The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) announced on Monday that they will hold peaceful protests across Sindh on February 8 against what they described as “fraudulent and rigged elections” that violated the public mandate.
In a statement, GDA information secretary and PML-F Sindh secretary-general Sardar Abdul Rahim said the protests would take place in front of all district press clubs under the direction of the spiritual leader of the Hur community, Pir Sahib Pagara. He said Pir Pagara had stressed the importance of strengthening the armed forces and securing the country’s borders during his recent visits to Sindh, praising Pakistan’s operations against terrorists in Balochistan.
Abdul Rahim criticized the February 8, 2024 elections as a “dark chapter” in Pakistan’s democratic history, alleging that public opinion was manipulated through force, intimidation, administrative interference, and Form 47. He said the elections violated both the constitution and the fundamental right of citizens to vote, with the country still suffering from the consequences in the form of inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and poor governance.
He called on all party officials, workers, sympathizers, and the public at district, tehsil, and union council levels to participate in the protests to show that the conscious people of Sindh reject “fake elections and fake rulers.” He emphasized that the demonstrations aim to raise their voices against the stolen mandate and to restore genuine democracy.
Abdul Rahim concluded by saying that PML-F and GDA would continue their struggle for the people’s right to governance until free, fair, and impartial elections returned the true mandate to the citizens.
