DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gomal Medical College (GMC) held its White Coat Ceremony 2026 for newly admitted first-year MBBS students at the Fida Memorial Auditorium, formally inducting them into the medical profession.
The ceremony was attended by faculty, students, and their parents. During the event, students wore the white coat for the first time and took an oath to uphold the ethical values of the profession, maintain professional integrity, respect patients, show compassion, and commit to lifelong learning. The presence of parents added an emotional dimension, reflecting their support and sacrifices.
Addressing the students, Dean Dr Naseem Saba Masood encouraged them to focus not only on knowledge but also on building strong character. She said medicine is more than a profession; it is a responsibility demanding honesty, patience, tolerance, and service to humanity. She also stressed to parents that students’ success comes from a shared effort of teachers, parents, and the institution, and urged students to prioritize ethics and patient care over grades and competition.
The keynote address was delivered online via Zoom by Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, and President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Speaking on professionalism, he said the white coat symbolizes responsibility, integrity, and public trust, not authority.
The Vice Chancellor urged students to uphold ethics, accountability, continuous learning, and compassion throughout their careers, emphasizing that a good doctor combines knowledge with humanity. Speakers highlighted that the White Coat Ceremony signifies the beginning of a challenging yet honorable journey, with the ultimate purpose of serving humanity. The event concluded with prayers for the success of the new students and the continued progress of the college.
