BANNU: A significant Grand Peace Jirga convened recently, bringing together notable figures and tribal elders from the region to express their steadfast support for the Pakistan Army in its ongoing fight against Fitna al-Khawarij, a term that encompasses extremist factions threatening peace and security. The gathering underscored the community’s recognition of the sacrifices made by security forces in restoring and maintaining tranquility in a historically volatile area.

The Jirga, attended by Major General Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, General Officer Commanding Kohat, provided a platform for local leaders to voice their appreciation for the military’s relentless efforts not only in combating militancy but also in enhancing social welfare, particularly in the realms of education and health. Participants highlighted the army’s significant contributions to promoting girls’ education, emphasizing the importance of empowering women in a region often plagued by traditional constraints.

Elders expressed their gratitude during the deliberations, stating that the Pakistan Army’s role extends beyond mere security operations; it embodies a commitment to the holistic development of society. They reiterated their determination to collaborate closely with the military to ensure sustained peace and stability, recognizing that enduring security is intrinsically linked to educational and healthcare advancements.

The sentiments echoed at the Jirga resonate with a recent grand Ulema conference held in Hangu, which similarly attracted a diverse assembly of religious scholars, leaders from minority communities, and students from various seminaries. This conference served as a nationwide platform, reiterating robust support for the Pakistan Army’s operations against Fitna al-Khawarij. Prominent Ulema and respected religious figures at the conference affirmed their commitment to unity in the face of threats to national peace and stability.

During their speeches, religious leaders underscored the imperative of collective action against extremism, urging the populace to stand behind the military’s initiatives aimed at eradicating radical elements. They emphasized the vital role that unity plays in confronting challenges, calling for a concerted effort to foster an environment where peace can flourish.

In both gatherings, the overarching theme was clear: a unified community stands as a bulwark against extremism, supporting the sacrifices made by security forces and advocating for a comprehensive approach to peace that encompasses not only military action but also social and educational reforms. The commitment shown by local leaders to support the Pakistan Army’s mission reflects a broader recognition that sustainable peace requires a multifaceted strategy, intertwining security, education, and community development.
