KARACHI: The Green Panel has announced that it will take part fully in the forthcoming elections 2025 of the Karachi Press Club, with its slate of candidates set to be formally unveiled on Wednesday, 24 December.

The presser said that the announcement of candidates would be made at the Karachi Press Club, following a decision taken at a meeting of the Green Panel’s election committee held on Monday. The meeting was chaired by the committee head, Saeed Jan Baloch, and was attended by a large number of Green Panel leaders and supporters.

In a joint statement, senior figures from across journalists’ representative bodies urged members of the Karachi Press Club and the Karachi Union of Journalists to attend the press club in large numbers on the day of the announcement to show their support.

Among the signatories were Green Panel group head Syed Hasan Abbas, former PFUJ president GM Jamali, PFUJ vice-presidents Ghulam Akbar Jaffery, Ghazala Fasih and Treasurer Shehr Bano, assistant secretaries general Rafi Hussain Farooqi and Shumaila Nawaz, and KJU president Ejaz Ahmed and general secretary Lubna Jarrar Naqvi.

Leaders of allied journalist bodies, including the Pakistan Association of Press Photographers and the Sindh Sports Journalists Association, also endorsed the appeal, describing the elections as an important moment for journalists’ collective representation. The Green Panel leadership made it clear that it has not entered into any electoral alliance with another group so far.

They dismissed circulating reports suggesting otherwise as baseless and fabricated, alleging that such claims were being spread deliberately to mislead voters and create confusion ahead of the elections. The panel said it remained focused on presenting its program directly to members and contesting the polls independently.
