SUKKUR: Khairpur police recovered a hostage who had been abducted several months ago and injured three suspected criminals during a targeted operation, officials said on Monday.

According to police, SHO Shah Hussain police station Abdul Ghaffar Phulpoto received intelligence that the kidnappers were moving the hostage between locations in the area. Acting on the tip-off, police teams set up ambushes and checkpoints at multiple points within their jurisdiction.

During the operation, an exchange of fire broke out between police and the suspects in the limits of Shah Hussain police station. Amid the gunfire, the kidnappers released the hostage, Abdul Waheed Khuwaja, and fled the scene.

Khairpur SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro said the abductors had earlier used a “honey trap” to kidnap Mansoor Ali, the son of Abdul Waheed, from Pir Jo Goth several months ago. He said the operation followed credible information about the movement of the kidnappers.

The SSP added that during subsequent actions by Shah Hussain, Wadda Machyoon, and Gambat police, three suspects — Azam Janwari, Muhammad Salim Chohan, and Bilawal Shaikh — were injured. Weapons were recovered from their possession. Police said raids were ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and bring all those involved in the abduction to justice.
