THARPARKAR: Residents of Nangarparkar in Sindh staged a protest following the illegal hunting of rare deer in the area. Demonstrators displayed the carcasses of the animals to draw attention to the incident.
Locals said that influential hunters had fired at the deer during the night, killing several and reportedly taking two to three with them. The act has sparked outrage among the community, who accused authorities of failing to protect wildlife.
An Assistant Conservator of Wildlife said the incident occurred in the Century Zone area. Authorities are collecting evidence and will register cases against the suspects.
He added that under wildlife protection laws, the hunting of a single deer could result in a fine of up to 2 million rupees and possible imprisonment.
