Imran Khan seeks to overturn the August 12 order from the accountability court, which he argues was based on incomplete information that could adversely affect his legal standing

ISLAMABAD:Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking to halt the ongoing proceedings related to the £190 million reference. The petition challenges the trial court’s order dated August 12 and requests the court to provide records from the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) decision to close the £190 million case, which was decided in April 2020.
Imran Khan’s petition argues that the trial court’s rejection of a request for the record of NAB’s 343rd Executive Board meeting—where the decision to close the case was reportedly made—could significantly impair his defense. The petitioner contends that the investigating officer confirmed during cross-examination that approval to close the case was granted in this meeting, underscoring the importance of accessing the meeting’s record for a fair trial.
The petition specifically names the Chairman of NAB, the Director General of NAB, and the Prosecutor General as involved parties. Imran Khan seeks to overturn the August 12 order from the accountability court, which he argues was based on incomplete information that could adversely affect his legal standing. In a related development, Imran Khan’s sisters, Azma Khan and Aleema Khan, have submitted a request to the Registrar Office. They have asked the Chief Justice to recuse himself from cases involving Imran Khan and to withdraw remarks related to the £190 million case from the wildlife case.
They argue that the Chief Justice’s comments on the wildlife case, which they claim are irrelevant, could influence the proceedings of the £190 million case. The £190 million case involves allegations against Imran Khan and his wife, Bushera Bibi, for allegedly mishandling funds sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government. The charges also include claims of receiving undue benefits through the acquisition of over 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for establishing Al-Qadir University. It is alleged that the approval for the settlement with the NCA was obtained without disclosing the details of the agreement to the public.
Imran Khan had sought cabinet approval for this settlement on December 3, 2019. The case gained significant attention when Imran Khan was arrested on May 9 from the Islamabad High Court premises by Rangers personnel, leading to nationwide protests. He was subsequently granted bail.
