former Prime Minister files acquittal plea in NAB court after judicial decision

ISLAMABAD: After the Supreme Court reinstated amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has moved to seek relief from ongoing legal proceedings. Imran Khan has filed a plea for acquittal in the NAB court concerning the £190 million reference. The hearing took place at Adiala Jail and was presided over by Judge Nasir Javed Rana.
Khan’s legal team has requested that his acquittal plea be consolidated with a similar plea filed by Bushra Bibi regarding the same reference. They argue that since Bibi’s plea is already on record, Khan’s request should be linked to it.
NAB’s legal representatives have opposed Khan’s plea, asserting that the court’s jurisdiction over the reference remains intact despite the Supreme Court’s ruling. They contend that the defence should have challenged the court’s jurisdiction before filing for acquittal and argue that jurisdiction must be determined prior to any acquittal being granted.
The court has issued a notice to NAB regarding Khan’s acquittal plea and has adjourned the hearing until Tuesday, September 10.
