PTI founder Imran Khan further accused authorities of orchestrating crackdown on PTI under false pretenses and avoiding impartial investigation of May 9 incidents

LAHORE: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, has issued a stark warning about the potential for widespread protests if the government disregards critical decisions related to reserved seats and attempts to extend the Chief Justice’s term. Speaking informally with journalists from his detention in Adiala Jail, Khan voiced his frustration with the current political situation, drawing a controversial comparison to the political climate in Bangladesh.

Imran Khan likened Pakistan’s political environment unfavorably to that of Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina’s regime. He claimed that the situation in Pakistan is more severe, criticizing Hasina for allegedly centralizing power by appointing her own Army Chief, Chief Justice, and police chiefs, while marginalizing opposition parties.

Khan warned that any attempt by the government to extend the Chief Justice’s term or to disregard Supreme Court decisions would provoke widespread protests. He emphasized that such actions would be seen as a direct affront to constitutional norms and judicial independence. Khan accused the government of orchestrating a crackdown on PTI under false pretenses, specifically citing the events of May 9. He claimed that footage from that day was manipulated by those responsible for the violence, resulting in a significant portion of PTI’s leadership being jailed or coerced into leaving the party.

The PTI leader condemned alleged electoral fraud and criticized the government’s alleged manipulation of judicial processes. He suggested that the government’s fear of exposure is leading them to appoint favorable judges and avoid holding elections in two provinces. Khan argued that this strategy is a deliberate effort to evade scrutiny and prevent the reopening of contested constituencies. Khan warned that the nation is on edge and that any failure to address these critical issues could lead to widespread unrest. His remarks reflect growing tensions between PTI and the current government, with Khan urging for a resolution to the ongoing political and judicial controversies.
