India has long exploited the territories of Iran and Afghanistan as bases for its interference in Pakistan. Unfortunately, this meddling has continued unabated, even after the regimes of Hamid Karzai and Ashraf Ghani. Despite initial hopes that the Taliban’s rise to power would improve relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the situation has deteriorated. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has established strong footholds in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s rule, further fueling terrorism within Pakistan. India has persistently supported the TTP, Baloch separatists, and religious extremists to orchestrate attacks against Pakistan, a fact substantiated with undeniable evidence presented to the U.S. and other international forums.
According to a recent United Nations report, the largest terrorist group in Afghanistan is the TTP, which is actively involved in terror activities within Pakistan, allegedly with the tacit support of the Taliban regime. Pakistan, in its bid to curb these threats, has taken direct action, targeting terrorist hideouts within Afghan territory. Yet, terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan continue to plague Pakistan, putting immense pressure on the nation’s security forces.
The recent skirmishes between Pakistan’s security forces and terrorists underline the sacrifices made by the country’s defenders. In a series of encounters, 12 terrorists were eliminated over the past two days. In the first incident, seven terrorists attempting to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area were intercepted by security forces, leading to their demise after an exchange of gunfire. In another encounter in Ladha, South Waziristan, five terrorists attacked a security post but were swiftly neutralized. Tragically, six valiant soldiers embraced martyrdom, fighting with unparalleled bravery.
There is a limit to patience and tolerance. Afghanistan’s continued involvement in supporting terrorist activities against Pakistan amounts to the behavior of a sworn enemy. The time has come for Pakistan to adopt a reciprocal stance, treating Afghanistan with the same hostility it extends toward Pakistan. Furthermore, within Pakistan, there are still agents and facilitators of these terrorist networks who pose a direct threat to the nation’s sovereignty and security. Swift and decisive action is necessary to eliminate these internal threats.
Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism have been immense, and the nation stands resolute. However, the persistence of cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan, coupled with India’s malign influence, highlights the need for a more assertive approach. Pakistan must unite internally and bolster its counterterrorism strategies to safeguard its territorial integrity and ensure the security of its people.
The nation can no longer afford to overlook the threats posed by external and internal enemies. Afghanistan’s hostile activities and India’s covert operations through proxies like the TTP must be confronted head-on. Only through unwavering resolve and decisive action can Pakistan ensure peace and stability, thwarting the nefarious designs of its adversaries.
