JAMMU, IIOJK: Indian forces launched extensive cordon and search operations across multiple districts of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to reports from the Kashmir Media Service.
The operations involved coordinated efforts by the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, police, and the Special Operations Group, and were carried out in Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, and Samba districts. Local residents described the operations as unrelenting, with armed personnel conducting house-to-house searches, setting up checkpoints, and restricting movement in entire villages.
Eyewitnesses reported that families were often confined to their homes while their properties were searched, leaving communities in a state of fear and uncertainty. Many Kashmiris said they faced harassment, arbitrary arrests, and, in some cases, physical abuse during these operations.
Human rights observers expressed alarm at the frequency and intensity of such operations, noting that the tactics used have a profound psychological impact on the civilian population. Experts said that repeated cordon and search operations have made daily life precarious, undermining basic freedoms and fostering an environment of intimidation.
Residents recounted stories of individuals being detained without explanation and subjected to prolonged questioning, with limited access to legal assistance. Some described the sense of helplessness as families struggled to carry out routine activities amidst heavy military presence.
The Kashmir Media Service reported that these operations are part of a wider pattern of militarization and control in the region, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among ordinary civilians. Rights groups called for an end to arbitrary actions and urged authorities to ensure that the rights and dignity of residents are respected, warning that continued crackdowns risk further inflaming tensions in the region.
