NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi could play a decisive role in stopping the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, according to the UAE’s first ambassador to India, Hussain Hassan Mirza.
In an interview with an Indian TV channel, Mirza said India’s global influence and Modi’s strong ties with both Israel and Iran could help ease tensions. “India is a major power, and a single phone call from Mr. Modi could persuade both countries to halt the war,” he added.
Mirza noted that Modi recently visited Israel and maintains close relations with Iran. He also highlighted India’s position as a major buyer of Iranian oil, giving New Delhi a unique diplomatic leverage in the conflict.
The ambassador expressed hope that India would actively work toward regional peace, especially given the presence of over 3.5 million Indians in the UAE, who have contributed significantly to the country’s economy and development.
He also clarified that the UAE has not allowed its territory to be used for any operations against Iran, and other Gulf countries such as Kuwait and Qatar have similarly restricted their lands from being used in attacks on Iran.
