ISLAMABAD: Indonesia has expressed interest in expanding defence cooperation with the Pakistan Air Force as it seeks to strengthen its military capabilities, according to Pakistan’s military media wing.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Chief of the Air Staff, Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, had undertaken an official visit to Indonesia, where he met the country’s president, Prabowo Subianto. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed what they described as a longstanding and brotherly partnership between Pakistan and Indonesia.
President Prabowo expressed particular interest in the Pakistan Air Force’s modern training regime and signaled Jakarta’s willingness to enhance cooperation aimed at boosting Indonesia’s defence capacity. The ISPR said the air chief also held separate meetings with Indonesia’s defence minister and senior military leadership. He was presented with a guard of honor at various official engagements during the visit.
According to the statement, both air forces agreed to expand joint training initiatives and professional exchange programs. Detailed discussions were also held on strengthening collaboration in emerging aerospace domains, reflecting a shared interest in advancing technological and operational capabilities.
The Indonesian air chief praised the Pakistan Air Force’s operational experience, the ISPR added, and conferred upon Sidhu the Indonesian Air Force’s highest “Medal of Honor” in recognition of his services. Officials said the joint meetings covered a range of defence and security matters, underscoring a growing convergence in strategic priorities between the two countries.
