TEHRAN: Iran’s foreign ministry announced that 55 Iranian nationals deported from the United States were expected to return to the country in the coming days, marking the second wave of expulsions under President Donald Trump’s stringent immigration policies.

The ministry confirmed that US authorities had identified nearly 400 Iranians in September as potential candidates for deportation. Speaking to reporters, ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the latest group of returnees follows an earlier batch of 120 Iranians who were expelled from the US and travelled from Doha to Tehran.

Baghaei described the deportations as part of a “continuing pattern” of Washington’s tough stance on Iranian residents, highlighting the broader impact on families and communities. In addition to addressing the deportations, he criticized the United States for refusing visas to members of Iran’s football delegation, who were scheduled to attend the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
