HORMOZGAN, IRAN: Iran held mass funeral prayers on Thursday for 180 schoolgirls killed in a deliberate airstrike on a girls’ school in Minab, Hormozgan province, on 28 February, in an attack attributed to the United States and Israel.
Thousands of mourners attended the ceremonies, grieving the victims and condemning both Israel and the United States. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, shared a striking image on social media of the graves, describing the attack as a deliberate assault on a primary school that left the children’s bodies mutilated. He criticized US President Donald Trump’s previous promises to “rescue” Iranians, saying the tragedy in Minab told a far harsher story.
Araghchi warned that the Minab strike reflected a broader pattern of civilian suffering in the region, citing areas from Gaza to southern Iran affected by US–Israeli military operations. The funerals highlighted the scale of grief across Tehran and other cities, as communities confronted the human cost of escalating regional tensions.
International observers condemned the attack, noting that the massacre of schoolgirls was likely to intensify anger over ongoing military operations and draw heightened scrutiny of the US and Israel, while worsening the humanitarian situation for families in affected areas.
